RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY & GRAND OPENING
Twenty years after their opening of the first high-stakes bingo operation in the country, the Seminole Tribe of Florida proudly announces the Grand Opening their multi-million dollar expansion to the Brighton Seminole Bingo and Gaming facility, located west of Okeechobee on the Brighton Seminole Indian Reservation. On Thursday, December 16th, 1999, the official grand opening celebration began with a luncheon for members of the media, tribal, county and gaming officials. Marty Johns, general manager, recalled the story of how twenty years ago, his father, Josiah Johns, began with a 50' X 35' building that was originally built to be hardware and beauty parlor and how it became one of the first high-stakes bingo operation in the country. An emotional Johns went on to thank the people who had done so much to make the new facility a reality. The new entertainment facility features lighted paved parking, ATM's and a state of the art air handling system that has sensors installed in the walls that automatically turn on the exhaust system which removes smoke from the building. The new 27,000 square foot, 2.6 million-dollar facility seats 500 for bingo, features an expanded poker room and 220 TAD machines. One of the most notable additions to the new facility is the Josiah Restaurant & Lounge, named after the late Josiah Johns, original general manager of Brighton Seminole Bingo and Gaming and father of the current general manager, Marty Johns. The 2,600 square foot restaurant and lounge seats 110, will offer a casual dining atmosphere and specialize in Steaks, Prime Rib, Seafood and Daily Homemade Specials. The luncheon was followed by an official ribbon cutting ceremony and kicked off a 3-day Grand Opening Celebration which included live remote radio broadcasts, drawings for cash prizes, bingo passes and Grand Opening t-shirts along with free hot dogs and cokes. The new facility will be open six (6) days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, doors open at 2:00 p.m. and Bingo is played at 6:45 p.m. Sunday doors open at Noon and Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. The Josiah Restaurant and Lounge opens at 4:00 p.m. and Poker begins at 3:00 p.m.
