Children and Teachers
The Seminole Tribe of Florida Education Department, in partnership with
Eckerd College, presents this Discover Native America School Study Guide.
Each year, the Tribe receives thousands of letters and e-mails from students
and teachers with questions about the Seminole Indians and requests for
research aids and educational materials. Many of the existing materials
available to students and teachers are either out of date or inaccurate in
their portrayals of Seminole history and culture. Here, on this ever-growing
site, we will compile the best educational information and materials
available regarding the Seminole Indians of Florida, both from the available
pool of study guides and educational aids already out there and those we
will create in this special project.
Each year, in early spring, the Seminole tribe of Florida sponsors a powwow
and American Indian festival -- Discover Native America -- on the campus of
Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. For more information about the 2001
event, please call 1-800-535-2228.
